Volunteers have been hard at work! This weekend, we removed and cleaned all extra materials from the basement and continued removing plaster from the ceiling and walls. As you can see in the pictures below, it looks quite different than it did when we began!

Tonight we continued cleaning out the basement. Most of the walls have been torn down and we are in the progress of clearing out the debris. This week, we were very grateful to receive two semi trailers to store supplies and materials!

We continued our work in the basement, but today's big project was the stage in the sanctuary. We removed a large portion that had been added to the original stage over the years. The extra space will allow for much more seating once the restoration is complete!

Renovations are in progress! If you’ve driven down Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway in Des Moines recently, you’ve probably noticed a distinct difference at The Kathedral! Trees and shrubs that formerly covered the sidewalk have been trimmed or cut down, and the fence has been removed from around the building. Inside, we’ve started clearing out debris and tearing out walls to prepare for the next phase in the restoration. Many have commented that in just a few short weeks the building has begun to be “resurrected!” Click the pictures below to view the progress on the outside of the building.
